A Wellbeing Approach To Traveling

Getting ready for a trip? Here are a few pointers that may help you get through it with as much ease, maybe even have some moments of bliss during  the trip.

Let’s start with the obvious:

  • Wear  comfortable clothes, shoes & socks (you could bring a change of clothes to change into before the flight lands if your are off to a special event or work right away)
  • Make sure you have all your travel documents before leaving the house (forgetting your passport home is never fun)
  • Take a thin travel yoga mat,  a towel or blanket with you, easy to fold and not bulky.  Taking one of those items with you is part of the plan to having a wellbeing travel experience.  If you are traveling with kids or a pet this will be extremely helpful to help keep you and your whole family comfortable.
  • Get to the airport as early as you can to avoid long lines at check in and security, once you are settled at your gate try to find a spot near a wall to settle by.  If you do have a long wait or a delayed flight, this is where your mat is key in keeping you and the family comfortable.  You can take turns resting on your back or doing a few stretches on the mat as needed before getting on your flight.  If you have any little ones they can comfortably take a nap or do some stretches and play on a clean surface.

Here are some poses to try on your own or with your family, do the ones most suitable for you.  Feel free to do any other poses you like.  These particular poses are helpful for the whole body, in preparation for long sitting periods at airports and on flights.  Have fun with the kids, don’t  focus too much on the poses looking perfect, just enjoy the laughs and time together.  Travelling can be very stressful at times, having a plan that includes being comfortable is a lifesaver.  I do not mind the stares from other travellers, sometimes they happily join in.  I always stay in an area that will not get in the way of any other travellers as I practice.   Happy travels.
